Bruce Lee’s screen test

Watch Lee’s fascinating audition for The Green Hornet where he demonstrates his kung fu moves way back circa 1965.

RTE’s Enda Kenny mixup
Someone in the art department confused Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny with.. Canadian actor Victor Garber?!?!

Villagers – Ship of Promises

Conor O’ Brien’s second music video from Becoming A Jackal is heavy with quasi new age symbolism but the song shines through completely.

Rusko – Hold On

UK dubstep producer has been spreading his  sound with credits on M.I.A’s newest album and soon, Britney Spears’ forthcoming seventh release. For Hold On, he ropes in Dirty Projectors’ Amber Coffman for a dubby dance track with a video shot on tour in the UK.

Tennis
One of the most-blogged new artists from last week, this Denver husband and wife clearly impressed with their whimsical indie-pop charms. Debut 7” is sure to sell out fast.

Tinie Tempah and Snoop Dogg
USA meets England and this time it’s not a draw. Snoop adds an extra flavour to Tinie Tempah’s smash hit Pass Out.

Cockandbullkid
After a quiet period, promising pop star Anita Blay (pictured) returns with a song called er, Cockandbullkid. Despite the lack of imagination in song-naming, the string-assisted tune itself is superb pop.

The wisdom of crowds

Have you ever wanted to create your own music but were too lazy to do so? Fret not dear reader, help is at hand. Thanks to beatbuilder.ie, you too can get behind the mixing desk, or in this case the internet as accessed from your laptop keyboard. 15 Irish-based musicians appear on screen like an episode of TV game show Celebrity Squares but instead of being asked vexing trivia questions, the musicians who vary from drummers to beat boxers and er, dancers perform a looped sequence of music and it’s up to you to decide who is worthy of your mixing skills.

Venerable geek bible Wired recently had a similar attempt in crowdsourced music - http://bit.ly/wiredsong. Provided with a bass, drum and guitar track, readers and the community at Indabamusic.com – an online remix and collaboration site, were given the month of May to record the best song they could with the materials provided. Many artists collaborated and the results are interesting, if a tad bit generic. Wired plans to extend the crowdsourcing concept by asking readers to pick a winner, which will then be remixed too, which may answer the age old question – can you turn dung into dollars, or more accurately, a few thousand online streams?
