In honour of creativity, music and technology, Digital presents its top 10 indispensable music apps for Apple iOs (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch), Google Android and as other smart devices.

1. LaDiDa – A fun app which uses a reverse karaoke concept. Sing into your device, choose a style and LaDiDa will match your vocals to a tune. You can then share it on Facebook, Twitter or send it via email. (iOs, €2.39)

2. Soundhound – Find out what song is playing anywhere. A close rival to Shazam, Soundhound’s extra feature is the ability to sing or hum into the microphone and get a match. (iPhone, Android, Ovi), Free / €3.99 for unlimited matches)

3. Bloom – Developed with Brian Eno’s help, Bloom is a musical instrument and a piece of art that enables anyone to create musical patterns and melodies by just touching the screen. See also Air and Trope by the same team. (iOs, €2.99)

4. I Am T-Pain – Perhaps the most hilarious app on the market, this app that allows you to sing along to some T-Pain hits or any tune on your iPhone. The more off-key you sing, the more the app autocorrects your voice, making the result an amazing live autotuned concert. (iOs, €0.79)

Nobody likes an iKnowItAll

I’ve become someone who’s easy to hate lately. Someone who is easy to vilify to add to my already dubious status as a blogger nerdy music type to 90% of the public. As much as I try I can’t help but be this person. I’ve become an iKnowItAll aka an iPhone evangelist.

I can’t help it. The thing is just so interesting and the applications are just so fascinating (and sometimes simultanelously downright stupid) that I have to show it off to friends and family. Forget the app that allows you to pretend to drink beer, to draw a lightsaber, or the countless amazing games available, for the last few weeks, it’s been all about music apps for me.

An iPhone app called Wunder Radio (€5.49) has reinvigorated my radio listening. Thousands of stations from around the world are available to browse on demand on your phone with a nice interface. The ability to stream over 3G means you can walk around the city listening to great radio stations like WFMU New York, Radio Helsinki, WOXY Cincinati or your local stations like Power FM, Phantom or Today FM (which has its own app in the iTunes store but suffers from a poor quality 32K stream).

No other online music service has excited and galvanised support from enthusiasts and industry in the last twelve months more than Spotify. Its burgeoning popularity is set to explode thanks to the release of the the Spotify mobile application for iPhone and Google Android handsets.

The impressive app has a simple but clever “offline mode” which allows you to listen back to recent playlists. As its only available to premium subscribers, Spotify are pinning their hopes on enough people shelling out €9.99 a month to use it.

Another iPhone app which has impressed me this week is RJDJ, a reactive, real-time music experience which is best demonstrated by a video showing how dance act Kids on DSP utilised the format on their reactive music album.
