There’s no shortage of bands from Brooklyn with annoying unGoogleable names and Friends could definitely be included in that list. What saves them is Friend Crush, their debut single, a slinking bass-line heavy pop song about the merits of friendship.
Friends – Friend Crush
A brand new Double A-side single from Richie Egan aka Jape is the first pre-cursor of new material from his new album Ocean Of Frequency which gets a release in September.
Garage surf thrash pop from Queensland, Australia courtesy of Alex Wall and Jordan Malane. Start your love affair with the band with the Ramones-esque thrill of Have Fun.
Solange Knowles covers Dirty Projectors
Beyonce’s younger sister gifts us her own version of Brooklyn band Dirty Projectors’ Stillness in the Move (itself one of the best songs of the year), done in an R&B style.
New Hot Chip – Take it in
After revealing that the followup to Made in the Dark is to be called One Life Stand and will be released in February, they debuted this taster track from the album. Watch out for a Dublin date shortly too.
The Sandwitches
As featured on the influential Gorilla Vs. Bear music blog, The Sandwitches are a San Fran three-piece which hark back to the good ole naive times when rock and roll was new, fresh and upbeat.

1. Dublin Flash Mob
A Flash mob Irish-style. Watch the video of the impromptu Irish jig outside the Central Bank.
2. Brian O’ Driscoll’s Cantona moment
BOD drops an admirable seagull/trawler style answer to a standard dull press question. A must see.
3. Jape 2FM Session Videos
Recent Choice Music Prize winner calls into the Donnybrook studio to play stripped down new songs ‘Downpour’ and ‘If You Can Here Me’ as well as ‘Graveyard’. Kudos to RTE for the HD option.
