We could make some kind of astute point about how the positive message of this ‘mash-up’ promotes old-fashioned fun-having and dancing in the slightly austere current economic climate. Instead we’re just going to say ‘ZOMG’ and ‘awesome’ at regularly spaced intervals. Make of that what you will.

When Timbaaaaaaaaaaaa Met Katy

Husky beat-packer Timbaland is gearing up for the release of his new record- Shock Value 2. The LP hosts vocals from basically anyone to ever have any kind of hit. We’re talking Elton John, Daughtry, and Miley (obv). And, Katy Perry. Normally the combination of Katy and Timbaaaaaaaaaaaaa (sorry, we’ve looked ‘Timbaland’ up in UD and that’s the correct pronunciation) would make us want to, well, we won’t go into that. But ‘If We Ever Meet Again’ has wormed its way onto the internet, and it’s literally not bad.

Please Note: The song is a remorseful floor-filler. Timbaaaaaa and Katy only caught eyes and had a little ‘moment’ in The Club. It is poignant.

Our Top 4 Favourite Bits?
1. The little Swannee whistle at 0.04
2. How it goes from Timbaaaaa being all alone At The Club chatting Katy up, to being INSIDE KATY’S THOUGHTS at 0.45.
3. At 1.38, Katy admits that she is ‘flirting with her eyes’. This is an advanced stage of ‘smiling with your eyes’, we think.
4. At 4.07 (yes, we skipped a bit in the middle, it was more of the same really) there is an interloper of sorts going ‘what’ like a slightly deaf uncle.

Our Least Favourite Bit?
The scary section from 4.27 onwards. This might have been a remnant of another track. Sort it out please.

Anyone who uses Twitter on a regular basis will have seen the #followfriday hashtag, in which people recommend other people worth following. In the spirit of things, here are Day and Night’s current favourite tweeting musicians and artists.

Who: Marina & the Diamonds (@marinasdiamonds)
Why?: As well as being a talented and gorgeous individual, burgeoning pop star Marina is also a genuinely nice person. It’s interesting to watch such a person become a pop star, which trust us, despite her tweet below, she will be by summer 2010.
Sample Tweet: “Can’t wait to be deemed the failure of 2010 ya’ll! Off to Hollywood to become an uber hot socialite now! Byyyyye!”

Who: Adebisi Shank (@adebisishank)
Why?: Humorous tweets from the Dublin frenetic rock trio taking in occasional reports from tours in Japan.

Who: John Mayer (@johncmayer)
Why?: Despite his music having less appeal than emptying the contents of a 40-year old bedpan over yourself, Mr .Mayer’s tweets are self-aware, tongue-in-cheek and thoroughly without the ego of a pop star.

Who: Katy Perry (@katyperry)
Why?: Love her or hate her, Perry is the definition of spunky. She has 1.4 million followers and generally uses that power to post pictures of herself, her nails and giant ice cream sundaes.
Sample Tweet: “Dear driver, u think u just got away with a silent vomitous FART in the car BUT unbeknownst to u I just put u on blast on my twitter. Booya.”

Who: Calvin Harris (@calvinharris)
Why?: Famous for throwing tantrums on Twitter and generally being quite engaging, Harris most recently broke the news that he was in fact the stage invader on X-Factor last week.

Promo is sticky business

Popstar Calvin Harris was partaking in some routine festival backstage waiting around time at the Wireless Festival in the UK recently when he was approached by a camera crew looking to test the theory that stars will turn up or do anything to be on TV, specifically, open a jar of jam.

Harris was asked to participate in a feature excitingly titled ‘Can you open my pot of jam?’. Despite his reservations he obliged yet in the ultimate act of self-sacrifice, it emerged that he, a mere mortal COULD NOT OPEN THE JAM. Three times.

Of course, I wouldn’t be writing about this unimportant incident had the emasculated Harris not told the world about his experience via, what else, but Twitter. In a series of bewildering yet entertaining updates, he recounted the sorry tale.

“Who do they expect to watch this jam-unopening?” he wrote. “Is this what it’s come to? Is this my life? It’s not the embarrassment of not opening the jam, I have come to terms with my lack of upper body strength. It’s the overwhelming sadness I feel that somebody who makes TV thinks this is an acceptable and entertaining feature.It’s not. It’s shite.”

In a wonderfully satirical move, Harris then decided to take Jamgate head-on by producing his own Youtube series called JamTV to highlight just how silly the whole affair is. The only thing is, in an inane yet discerning way – it’s rather hilarious. With an Adam and Joe-esque theme song and the episodes showing Goldie and Katy Perry (see below) perplexingly opening a jar of jam, Harris has made Jamgate into a cathartic and genuinely funny experience. Just in time to promote his new single ‘Ready for the Weekend’. See? There’s no such thing as bad promo.
