Jai Paul

It’s always worth paying attention to XL Recordings latest roster additions. Amongst recent successful signings like Adele, Friendly Fires and Tyler The Creator is Jai Paul, a 21 year-old North Londoner whose brilliant debut wonky electro pop single BTSTU finally got a single release last week.

Odd Future

Speaking of Tyler The Creator, his LA brat-rap pack Odd Future have redesigned their website and made it pretty easy to grab all 12 releases so far from members of the group including Frank Ocean, Mellowhype, Earl Sweatshirt, Hodgy Beats and Tyler himself.

Michael Kiwanuka

With a soulful voice that belies his 23 years and recalls Bill Withers, Londoner Kiwanuka has been impressing as support to Adele on tour recently. His debut single Tell Me A Tale prompted blogger TwentyFourBit to compare it to “an unearthed gem ripped from a rare piece of vinyl in someone’s ’70s record collection”.

EMA

LA-based musician Erika M. Anderson has been compared to Emmylou Harris, Sonic Youth, Siouxsie Sioux, Neil Young, My Bloody Valentine and Julianna Hatfield. That’s probably reason enough to check out her debut album Past Life Martyred Saints, starting with the single California.
